Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab App revisa

Love Merlin Bird ID!!!!

One of my favorite pleasures of spring and summer afternoons is to sit outside on my patio and run Merlin sound ID. It identifies each birdsong that sweetens the air. Thanks to sound ID, I am getting better at recognizing the songs myself. I truly love this ap, and have recommended it to fellow bird lovers!♥️♥️♥️

Update no longer allows you to play bird sounds

Update: the new version no longer allows you to play bird sounds. This drastically decreases the effectiveness of this app. The app is great, with the only issue being a very cumbersome and ineffective way of getting your account set up. Seems like this is a common issue where verifying the email doesn’t work, fortunately, I was able to fill out a ticket in order to report the issue, which, based on the questions asked sounds like a very common issue, and finally was able to verify and use the app.

A must Have App

For bird lovers, Merlin is an indispensable tool. I use it to introduce others to our feathery friends. The sounds/calls have been a great way to introduce birds to my grandchildren. What they used to ignore as background noise is now an audible mystery to be solved. Great app!

I LOVE IT

IT IS SO COOL AND I GET TO SEE WHAT BIRDS I HEAR. I LOVE IT!!!!!!

This App

Garbage. Has not worked once.

Best app ever

completely free and teaches you so much. so easy to use. honestly my favorite app on my phone. i love this so much.

Easy and fun

This is app is so much fun! I love tracking to see what birds are in my backyard or when I’m in a new location. Easy to use!

Great app

This app has correctly identified almost every single bird that I come across. Truly spectacular.

Awesome!!!

If you’re ever curious about the birds you hear you have to get this app. Also a great way to get kids interested in nature. I find it a valuable tool to satisfy my curiosity of what birds I’m hearing. It’s 99.9% correct with the identification so that’s important. A must have. Love it

So cool!

I tried this out before and it’s so great!

Fantastic resource

I use the “identify by sound” feature just about every time I’m outside. It’s helping me get much better at IDing birds by their calls. The step-by-step identification is fantastic as well, with excellent physical descriptions to help you ID the correct bird.

Best educational app

I’ve used this app on a few field trips with kids from school, they love it and share with their parents for their own walks. My own kids and I have used it on our travels and nature hikes. There are so many birds I’ve heard but never knew the name of them. Tips for amateurs; go out early in the morning to get the best bird finds and noises. Have fun stay safe and enjoy this amazing app.

Now requires validated email

Why? Just leave us alone.

Love this app!

I love sitting on my back deck watching and listening to the birds especially in the Spring. I am by no means a serious bird watcher (I do admire those people) but I love what this app provides for me.

New Update

The new update does not go to the bird’s identification when selected! This happens with the bird of the day and from my list. I have reinstalled twice. This app is now useless.

Amazing, great for getting into bird watching!

I had wanted to get into bird watching for years but it always seemed so insurmountable just going off of books and videos, without anyone to guide you. With Merlin it made it so much more accessible! You can look up a bird based off of its bird call or its appearance. So even if you can’t see it you can have it audio record and tell you what it most likely is. You can then hear their database bird calls for that bird to verify and look up more info about them. It also keeps track of what birds you’ve seen and you can look up birds in their database too.

Amazing.

I destroy my girlfriend’s high score everyday. This is the only thing in my life that brings me joy. Highly recommend.

Learning calls and sounds

The app in identify mode will record and identify birds around you by noise or call. Then it keeps all birds it has found or identified on the screen and highlights them when they are calling again so you can learn to identify the birds in real situations. Love it!

Sound ID Worse

It used to be great. The sound ID is horrible since the app overhaul. We hear birds clearly and the app will not hear or ID them anymore. It’s a shame. It used to be great.

I love this app

This app has been amazing! I have learned so much about my neighborhood birds and am always excited to add new birds to my list whenever I visit other places! I recommend this app to so many people! It’s very impressive!

Sound ID is no longer working.

Sound ID used to be excellent but now does not work at all.

The very best

What a great app! Great for birders of all levels. The only thing I wish is that it included more natural history on the birds, or at least links to that information. I also really wish there was this same thing for other animal groups like reptiles and mammals.

Am I doing something wrong

I want to look up a bird by name. I can’t figure out how to do that. Makes the app useless for trying to get facts on a bird I know.

Delightful!

Being able to identify all of the birds you can hear feels like a superpower. I choose apps mostly based on how useful they are; this one is useful and a delight.

GREATEST OF THEM ALL

This bird app is obviously the greatest of all time I always use it’s more of a game than a app

Very accurate

This app is amazing. I’ve even been able to identify birds outside my window with traffic noise in the background. It’s like Shazam for bird songs - but probably even better.

Great app!

This is like Pokémon Go but for real amazing creatures! Thank you.

Worked great till I donated

Does not work anymore, worked great before I donated so maybe donating messed it up.

App update

Hi, I’d previously give it 10/10 but I can’t say there is anything helpful in the update. Now it feels cluttery and less like a tool. Function over aesthetics please!

Invasive

Needs an email to use a free app. Why would I want to give my email to yet another company that would sell it or send me unwanted communications? I could see using an email if I was subscribing to a service, but not using free aspects of an app.

What changed???

I have loved using the app to id who’s singing around me. It used to pick up sounds & id the bird very quickly. For the last few months it will ‘hear a bird’ but not identify it even after hearing it for more than a minute. And other times, it won’t even ‘hear’ the bird when it is flying around above me. This issue seemed to come after an update. Did something change?

Compliments

This really good app. I think that it’s really good soI think it’s really good I mean there’s nothing that you should really change I think it’s a really good app how it is it’s really really good, so yeah look it up. People should try it.

Used to be good

I used to love this app for the sound of and profiles of birds but now the app makes you download what’s called bird packs. Since this has become a necessity for the sound id features to work it has been nothing but trouble and frustration. It never works properly and you need to have an internet connection apparently? Also, the bird profiles do not appear for me anymore when I got to type a bird into the search bar. It will bring up the bird but all I can do is create a sighting, you cannot click on the bird to see its information. I used to love this app but I think I will be deleting it since it is only causing frustration to me, and who wants that when you are birding? :(

don't diss the house sparrows. they gossip

wonderful app, even includes a spectrogram with image export!! reccomended to me by my classmate Forest. thanks man!!

Excellent app but not perfect

Great field reference and eliminates the need for carrying a book. The sound ID is very good but wrong way too often to trust. I use the sound ID to tell me what to look for or to confirm a song or call I have identified. The step by step guide rarely gives my a confirmed ID but it is very good at narrowing the possibilities.

Amazing Audio ID

Loving this app. I started using it last spring and it’s so accurate. I get up in morning and record while I sip coffee. It amazes me how it finds the birds in my backyard before I could see them. I never knew how many varieties were at my home.

Totally In LOVE!!

I’ve woken up to birdsong for as long as I can remember—the best alarm! But I never knew which birds they were until this app. Now, I’m completely hooked! I’d say addicted, but it’s so healthy, it can only be called love!

One of the coolest apps I’ve ever used

This app is what I always dreamed I’d be able to use the Internet for back in those starry eyed days of dial-up and AOL. It is beyond cool watching it identify bird calls in real time. It can pick out calls from a dozen birds chattering at once, and the visual audio trace is hypnotic to watch. It’s a great way to relax outside when you’ve got anxious phone hands- you’re not going to open Facebook or tiktok or whatever when you’ve got Merlin to get yourself in the moment and thinking about all the life around you. The modern Internet age might be ruining our lives but at least we get apps like Merlin! (If you love Merlin, I also recommend you check out Picture This for really excellent plant identification and some pretty decent bug ID.)

Amazing ID but…

The bird ID by sound is amazingly good, however.. that is the primary use we make of the app, and by the time we get the app started then click through several layers of screens to get it listening, the bird has usually left or stopped singing. :-( Please make it start listening from the main screen! ——-/————- Had to downgrade app. sadly the pictures of the birds heard no longer seems available:-((((( I really need that! Sorry I can’t afford a new phone! So you’ve made it not work for me :-( /// update, now it wants us to be connected to the internet to use! We keep the phone mostly in airplane mode. So the app now doesn’t remember our location, it stops access until we go into menus and re-select the location !!! You know, the app used to work perfectly!so please make it work again!!

IT’S THAT GOOD

yo i’ve never written a single app review everrrrrrrrr. this is the first one. this app is that. good. brings me so much joy.

wonderful asset to bird watching

fun for adults and children learning about nature!

Gotta have it

This app is so amazing and I love all the birds. Bird of the day?! What an incredible idea!

Not for Australia

Poor database for call identification for Australia. Hoping for better luck in the US.

Worthless app

I decided to use this app for my baby chicks I got to see what kind of chicken my rainbow eggers were. I scanned the chick and it came back and told me it’s a Bald Eagle. I scanned it once more and same thing. I deleted the app and went with Bird Finder.

Completely bricked their own sound ID tool

The addition of the built sound ID took this app from great to a must have for anyone into birding and bird identification. Now the sound ID is entirely useless and not even worth attempting. You can be watching an exact spectrogram get drawn out of the isolated bird call, the app will say “hearing a bird”, and then it will completely give up. Real shame.

Love it!!!

I’m not knowledgeable about birds but i was curious which birds I could hear and now I use this app all the time! I walk outside a lot so it’s my new favorite app.

What happened???

This is on of my favorite apps. I have told friends and strangers both about it for years. What happened to it? It no longer allows me play bird calls. When you select a bird form the list is just shows me a thumbnail picture of the bird and that’s all it does. Please fix or tell me what I need to do.

Winner!

I’ve had the app for the third season I believe and it’s my favorite app! I’m a bird house builder and feeders and enthusiast. I can sit and watch the birds all day! I thoroughly enjoy the app to see all of the species around us! Wonderful and thanks

Bird packs not loading

It worked great for a while but now it will not let me explore birds. App just “thinks” and never loads likely birds; using a bird pack will show “0 birds”
